I’m on a mission to get my pantry organized, and pretty things up with bright and colorful custom canning labels. So, I decided to try my hand at making my own printable canning labels, and I wanted to share them with you too!
Once the busy food canning season is over, my pantry is filled with jars and jars of yummy home grown food… but it’s not very pretty.
I’ve always just written on my canning jar lids with a permanent marker, but that’s ugly and boring.
Plus, it doesn’t do justice to all the time and hard work I put into growing and canning all of that lovely food! I want to add a personalized touch to my jars.
So, I created these super cute printable canning labels.
Now you can download them for free, print them off right at home, and use them to give your canning jars that special personal touch.
Printable Canning Label Instructions
To use your canning jar labels, you can either use printable templates (option 1 below), or you can use paper (option 2 below).
They will look best when you use a color printer. But you can also print them in black and white if you don’t have a color printer.
Option 1: Use Label Templates To Print The Canning Labels
To make it super easy to label your mason jars, you can use printable custom templates.
These are basically big stickers that you can peel and adhere to the top of the lids. Below are the instructions for use.
Supplies Needed:
- Printable round label templates (2″ size labels for regular canning jar lids, and the 2.5″ size for wide mouth)
- Pen, sharpie or colorful markers
Printing Instructions:
Follow the instructions that come with the templates to make sure you have your printer settings correct before printing your labels.
I recommend printing a test copy on regular paper before using the printable canning label templates to make sure everything is lining up correctly on your printer.
Once you have your labels printed, you can write on them, and then simply peel and stick them onto the canning jar lids.
Option 2: Use Paper To Print The Canning Jar Labels
If you’d rather use regular paper, I recommend going with a card stock rather than regular stuff from your printer.
That way the labels will hold up better, and won’t wrinkle once you put them on the jar. Here are the instructions..
Supplies Needed:
- Card stock paper
- Scissors or large hole punch (2″ hole punch for the regular jar size, or 2.5″ punch for wide mouth)
- Glue stick
- Pen, sharpie or colorful markers
Instructions:
If you’d rather print the canning labels on paper and cut them out manually, I recommend using a thick card stock paper. It will hold up much better than regular printer paper, and look nicer too.
Once they’re printed you can cut your labels out with scissors. If you’re not so great with those, use a large crafting hole punch.
The 2″ hole punch is perfect for regular jar lids, or use a 2.5″ punch for the wide mouth ones.
The hole punch will make the job much faster and more precise than simply using scissors.
You can write on your labels before or after cutting them out, whichever is easiest for you.
Just make sure to let the ink dry before handling them so they don’t smear.
When you’re done, use a glue stick to completely cover the back of each label, and then firmly press them onto your mason jar lids.
How To Use Your Custom Mason Jar Labels
These free printable canning jar labels are great for adding bright pops of color to your pantry, and making your mason jars look even prettier.
Use them to label any of your canned foods; salsa, fruit, vegetables, jelly, jam, preserves, chutney… you name it!
The best part about these blank labels is that they’re customizable. So you don’t just have to use them for food items.
They would work great for anything you use canning jars for. Like storing dry food, organizing your trinkets, crafting, and more.
They’re also perfect to add a cute, personal touch to your jars if you’re going to be giving your canned food away as gifts!
You can write on them with anything you want. But if you want them to be all matchy-matchy, get some color-coordinated markers. Adorable!
